More fluid in its form than ice but less so than fire, water is one of four elements that, at least in terms of attunement, can be created by the combination of two base elements. Slow to heat and cool, and longer lasting than either of its components, water is representative of not only said liquid, but motion, travel, and in some sense that shadowed expanse beyond the night sky, in which the stars hang suspended as though floating. Water or moisture in some capacity can be found to be a component of most things, mud and earth, clouds, and of course bodies of it themself all contain it.

The cult of the sea is the largest cult dedicated to the worship of a single element. Though the crew of larger vessels may escape its pull, it is said that near every lone fisherman on any inhabited coast claims to be a practicing member, though these practices very vastly. The core beliefs of the cult, other than a general reverence for the sea over land and water over other elements, are somewhat mysterious, and the cult may have a connection to the even more bewildering cult of the moon (the existence of which is still itself in debate by those who study religion).

tougher than ice but easier to shatter than rock, crystal is one of four elements that, at least in terms of attunement, can be created by a combination of two base elements. Sharing some of the clarity of ice and some of rocks opaqueness, able to form more freely than rock but not as easily as ice, crystal is representative not only of its physical form, but growth, healing, and life itself. Crystal can be found within rocks, caves and underground, but rarely is the most prevalent element in any area, unless you consider all life to be formed of the same energies produced by crystal that is.

Practitioners of the cult of the crystal, who value healing and growth, believe that the crystal element, or energies corresponding to it, are the source of all life. They argue that as living things cannot be easily demonstrated to be formed of any combination of elements, and crystal is the element that can be seen to grow in a observable and sustainable way, then if the world is formed of elements crystal must be the source of all life, and thus the most important one of all. Largely pacifistic even in opposition, their mages are healers and their warriors bounty hunters who would capture lawbreakers and enemies of the order rather than kill them. Members of the cult are found in small groups or conclaves in most civilized areas. Strong rivalry with the cult of the maelstrom.

Sometimes as dangerous as fire, sometimes nearly intangible as the sky, maelstrom is one of four elements that, at least in terms of attunement, can be created by the combination of two base elements. Maelstrom is representative not only of squalls caused by heated air, lightning, which is a sky-borne source and reflection of fire, and, to some, any "fire in the sky", such as the sun and stars, but also chaos, destruction, and change. While its more violent aspects are often fleeting and sudden as fire, and thus not fully present or confined to any one area, its gentler breezes can be near ever present as the sky.

The only faith system corresponding to a single nation, those born outside of this countries influence travel to become citizens after being introduced to the faith, though after they may return to their home countries as sleeper agents. Having the largest army of any nation, the cult of the storm links the element maelstrom to war, destruction, and chaos, though not necessarily conquest. They rarely take over new lands without leaving some behind. This means that while the residents live in one place for decades at a time, the country itself is almost nomadic, shifting its position completely over the centuries. Strong rivalry with the cult of the crystal.

Moon

Visible in the sky but with the appearance of a rock on closer examination, the moon is one of four elements that, at least in terms of attunement, can be created by the combination of two base elements. The moon, or moon as the element is typically referred to, is representative not only of the celestial body, but its light, insanity, and even time itself along with an assortment of other natural, and unlike the other elements, sometimes even unnatural processes. Its true nature only partially revealed just as the moon only ever partially cuts through the night. It is further out of reach than any of the other elements for the most part, and yet lights even the most familiar environments come nightfall.
